Program Structure
Our programs are broken down into Intro, Intermediate and Proficient Sections.
Section 1 (Intro)
Section 1 covers Serato basics, music theory for DJs, and set curation, finishing with a recorded structured mix that demonstrates your foundational technique.
Section 2 (Intermediate)
Section 2 adds intermediate Serato technique, intro scratching, DAW basics, and live recording, finishing with a polished audio/video recorded set.
Section 3 (Proficient)
Section 3 ends with a full DJ portfolio: advanced live performance, genre specialization, original mashups, and a complete artist identity ready for real opportunities.

Section 1: Intro
Intro to Serato DJ
The Intro to Serato course provides hands-on training in the fundamentals of DJing using Serato DJ Pro.
Music Theory for DJs
Music Theory for DJs is a 4-week class that explores essential music theory concepts for DJs, with a focus on key identification, harmonic compatibility, and creative transitions.
DJ Set Curation
The DJ Set Curation course is a deep dive into the art of curating and performing meaningful DJ sets.
FINAL PROJECT: Recorded Opener Mix
Record and submit your first 30-minute DJ set in Serato — a curated opener mix with key-matched transitions and a written breakdown of your track selection that documents your creative decision-making from the start.
Section 2: Intermediate
Intermediate Serato DJ
The Intermediate Serato DJ course is designed for DJs who already understand the fundamentals and are ready to push their skills to the next level.
Intro to DJ Scratching
The Intro to DJ Scratching course introduces DJs to the art of scratching with a strong focus on gear fluency, turntable mechanics, and foundational scratch techniques.
Audio & Video Recording for DJs
The Audio & Video Recording for DJs course teaches practical methods for DJs to record professional-quality audio and video of their sets.
Music Business Essentials
This course provides a practical introduction to the modern music business for independent artists.
Intro to Logic Pro / Ableton Live (Elective)
Choose between Logic Pro or Abletion Live for a hands-on introduction to digital music production. Students will explore core techniques including recording, MIDI programming, editing, and applying effects.
FINAL PROJECT: Video-Recorded Direct Support Set
Step up to a 30-minute video-recorded set in Serato featuring advanced mixing techniques and an original edit — a direct support performance that shows real technical range and puts your face and skills on camera for your portfolio.
Section 3: Proficient
Intro to Vinyl DJing
This course is a deep dive into the traditional craft of DJing with vinyl records. Students learn to set up and maintain turntables, handle vinyl properly, and develop essential skills like manual beatmatching, cueing, and mixing without digital assistance.
Producing Mashups & Edits
Producing Mashups & Edits is a practical, DAW-agnostic course that turns raw tracks into performance-ready mashups and edits. You will build a repeatable workflow: organize, warp, align, harmonically match, extract and clean vocals, design transitions, control energy with FX and automation, and deliver versions tailored for DJ use.
Artist Branding & Social Media
Students learn to define their unique identity, develop compelling messaging, manage a multi-platform social media presence, design and maintain an Electronic Press Kit (EPK), and create a long-term strategy for career growth.
Intermediate DJ Scratching
The Intermediate DJ Scratching course is designed for intermediate DJs to master next-level scratch techniques to elevate their DJ sets and battle skills. Through hands-on lessons, students will sharpen timing, precision, and creativity with advanced patterns and combos.
Advanced DJ Hardware
This Advanced DJ Hardware course expands the creative performance toolkit for house and electronic DJs by introducing hardware effects, live sampling, and hybrid performance techniques beyond standard decks and mixers.
Advanced DJing: House
Advanced DJing: House is a focused exploration of DJing house music at a professional level. Students learn how to prep and structure house sets with purpose, use loops and FX with intention, and deliver transitions that are musically appropriate and emotionally compelling.
Advanced DJing: Open Format
This Advanced DJing: Open Format course is designed for DJs who have already mastered foundational and intermediate skills and are ready to refine their craft as versatile, open format performers.
FINAL PROJECT: Headliner Set + EPK
Graduate with a headliner-level set and a professional EPK — a filmed 30-minute performance in Serato using original mashups, live edits, and outboard gear that shows your full range, paired with the branding materials every working DJ needs.

What is Sound Collective?
Sound Collective is a NYC-based music education and creative community hub for producers, DJs, musicians, and engineers. We combine hands-on classes, private mentorship, professional studios, and a collaborative community under one roof, with flexible online learning for artists around the world.

Sound Collective offers several ways to learn and access the space:

What is the Full Program?
The Full Program is Sound Collective’s most immersive educational offering. It’s structured in three levels, Intro, Intermediate, and Proficient, and combines courses, private lessons, membership access, and career development support.
Full Program students receive:
- 12 hours of private lessons per section (36 hours total)
- Access to all courses within their section
- Full facility membership during each section
- Full online platform access
- Partner discounts and benefits
- Eligibility for select Inner Circle events and showcases
- Full access to the online platform
Can I take individual courses without enrolling in the Full Program?
Yes. Courses can be taken individually or as part of the Full Program.
Individual course students receive:
- Weekly in-person classes
- Access to facilities on class days
- Four all-access day passes per course
- Course materials and project files via the student dashboard
- Partner discounts and select event access
Are classes in person or online?
Both.
- In-person classes and lessons take place at our NYC campus
- Online courses and lessons are available globally via our learning platform
Some offerings are exclusively in person, while others are available online or hybrid.
What does membership include?
Membership provides ongoing access to Sound Collective’s studios, DJ rooms, practice spaces, and shared areas during staffed hours.
Members receive:

- Eligibility to attend select “inner circle” workshops, showcases, and events
- One free guest day pass per month

Membership does not include classes or private lessons.
How do Day Passes and Week Passes work?
Day and Week Passes provide short-term access to Sound Collective facilities during staffed hours. They’re ideal for artists who need temporary studio or practice space.
Passholders receive:
- Full access to production rooms, DJ setups, and practice areas
- Flexible short-term booking options
Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable once activated.
How do I book a room or studio?
All bookings must be made through:
- The Sound Collective booking portal, or
- The front desk or admissions team
Members may book up to 30 days in advance.
Other passes may book up to two weeks in advance.
Each user is limited to one booking per day, up to three hours, to ensure fair access.
What happens if I’m late or miss a booking?
- Sessions starting more than 20 minutes late may be forfeited
- Repeated no-shows or tardiness may result in a $40 fee
- Booking privileges may be restricted for continued violations
Can I bring guests?
Yes, with limitations.
- All guests must check in at the front desk
- Guests must hold a valid guest pass
- Members are fully responsible for their guests’ behavior
Children are not permitted unless explicitly enrolled or approved.
What equipment is available?
All rooms are equipped with industry-standard gear, including:
- Production workstations
- DJ setups (CDJs, vinyl, controllers)
- Instruments, synths, and drum machines
- Professional studio monitoring
Special equipment must be requested at the time of booking. Users may request up to two external items per session, subject to availability.
Are food and drinks allowed?
- No food or drinks in studios, classrooms, or performance spaces
Food and drinks are allowed only in shared lounge areas
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
All purchases are final unless canceled by Sound Collective.
- Courses & classes: No refunds or make-ups for missed sessions (all courses are recorded and can be watched live via Zoom or after the fact via the learning platform)
- Private lessons: Must cancel 24 hours in advance
- Workshops & events: Non-refundable once purchased
- Memberships: Require 30 days written notice to cancel
- Passes: Non-refundable once activated
Credits may be issued only if Sound Collective cancels a service.
Is grading involved?
Grading applies only to Full Program students and select graded courses.
A full grading policy is available in the student handbook.
How do payments work?
- All tuition, memberships, and lessons must be paid before access begins
- Payment plans may be available for select Full Program students
- Late or declined payments may result in fees or suspended access
