Alex Cohen is a world-renowned drummer, author, and educator celebrated for his technical mastery and groundbreaking innovations on the drum set. A graduate of both Drummers Collective and NYU Steinhardt, Alex has built a reputation as one of the most advanced and progressive drummers of his generation. Praised by legends such as Thomas Lang (“Incredible”) and Virgil Donati (“A revelation”), Alex continues to push the boundaries of modern drumming with unmatched precision, speed, and creativity.
Since beginning his professional career in 2007, Alex has performed globally in a wide range of musical settings, from progressive metal to jazz and beyond. He has worked with acts including Malignancy, Mac Miller, and even produced work for National Geographic, showcasing his versatility across genres and media.
As an author, Alex has published two acclaimed instructional books: Ultimate Progressive Drumming and Extreme Polyrhythm and Speed Techniques (co-authored with Brazilian drumming icon Ramon Montagner), both of which have been endorsed by top drummers like John Riley and Derek Roddy. His third book is set for release in 2024. That same year, Alex received the Louie Bellson Award from Drumeo, honoring his contributions to drum set independence and double bass innovation.
In addition to a packed performance schedule, Alex runs a high-end recording studio in Pennsylvania and is a sought-after clinician, hosting drum camps worldwide. He is currently on faculty at The Collective Global Vision and Sound Collective, where he has been teaching since 2022, offering expert instruction in technique, groove, double bass, and polyrhythmic development.
