Hilliard Greene is a New York City–based bassist and composer with over 30 years of musical study and more than two decades of professional performance experience. His work spans classical, jazz, rock, blues, R&B, and music from global traditions, with a current focus on solo performance and Tango. Greene performs widely in NYC at recitals, nightclubs, recordings, and on television and radio, and has appeared internationally throughout Europe, the United States, Asia, and South America. He has performed and recorded with luminaries including Jimmy Scott—serving as his Musical Director—Cecil Taylor as Concert Master for the group Phtongos, Gloria Lynne, Jacky Terrasson, Rashied Ali, Kenny Barron, Carla Cook, Vijay Iyer, and many others.
At Sound Collective, Greene brings decades of expertise to teaching bass performance, ensemble work, and improvisation. He emphasizes technical mastery, stylistic versatility, and expressive musicianship, guiding students to develop both their personal voice and professional-level skills across multiple genres.
